A fresh start. A world of new friendships, teachers, and opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But for others, it\u2019s the moment <strong>where things begin to unravel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because schools don\u2019t care &#8211; but because the transition into secondary school isn\u2019t just about new timetables and bigger buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s emotional.<br>It\u2019s social.<br>It\u2019s psychological.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when it\u2019s not handled with care, the cracks don\u2019t take long to show.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cWe\u2019d love to\u2026 but we just can\u2019t afford it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the most common thing we hear when we speak to schools about XLR8, our two-week summer transition programme for vulnerable pupils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And we get it &#8211; budgets are tight. Every decision is a trade-off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But let\u2019s flip the question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is the cost of doing nothing?<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Now, let\u2019s talk about managed moves.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A managed move is a formal process &#8211; often the last resort &#8211; when a pupil\u2019s behaviour or disengagement has reached crisis point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a system meant to offer a fresh start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But for most, it signals something else:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Early red flags missed or unsupported<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A child who never fully settled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pastoral teams stretched past their limits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Families feeling unheard or disillusioned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And crucially, a sign that the early warning signs weren\u2019t caught &#8211; or couldn\u2019t be addressed in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real cost? It\u2019s structured. Measurable.
